What are Oklahoma City’s claims to fame?

OKC is the number two ranking in the nation for lowest in state tuition, the top ten for the lowest cost of living (according to the national average) and we are rated by USA Today as one of the Best U.S. cities for Millennial college students.

Not only is Oklahoma City one of the best rated places to live in the United States,  but they offer a plethora of things to do that will keep you more than entertained.

Whether you live in the city or are just visiting, this guide will point you in the right direction when you’re looking for the happening spots around town.

Scrumptious Cuisine


Kitchen No. 324

Paul Braniff’s old airplane company converted to an American rustic café serves breakfast, brunch and lunch. Up at 4am, their local chefs are cookin’ in their kitchens to whip up several  yummy options including signature coffee, fried green tomato benedict, kolaches, ganache glazed donuts and who can resist the “Sam I am” green eggs and ham?


Nourished Food Bar

This food bar ran by foodies and nutrition coaches offers healthy on-the-go snacks that are bought from local farmers. They also serve a lunch menu (where limited seating is available) of soups, salads, coffee/tea,smoothies and baked goods. If you have food allergies, this would be the ideal place to eat. This restaurant uses ingredients that are free of the top common allergens.Whether you are in the mood for figs on your salad, fresh granola or delicious cookies on your lunch break this is the place to get your health on.


The Red Cup

Who knew veggies tasted so yummy?! A great spot to study and chill with friends over some fresh raspberry decadence espresso topped with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. This vegetarian landmark location has been open 20 years providing unique choices like a patty melt salad made with lentils, to a vegan Frito chili pie, a juicy smoothie or a sweet tooth satisfier called the Tiger Butter Brownie.


Iguana Grill

Located in the heart of Automobile Alley on 9th street, this Mexi-fare joint is a highlight for Okie’s everywhere. They take Mexican dishes to a new level serving a variety of choices from complimentary house made salsa to a delightful Tres Leches. And don’t forget to take a bite out of their creative twist on tacos! Don’t miss out on trying one of their most popular items the Chile Relleno that has fried in an organic blue corn batter placed onto a sweet honey black bean sauce then topped with an Avocado & Cilantro Crema and a Gaujillo aioli. Let us not forget the drinks!

They make a yummy Blood Orange margarita made with fresh blood oranges and lime juice with a touch of agave nectar. Not to mention, they offer lots of specials like, Tuesday nights after 5pm you can sample their different tacos for only $1.00 each, dinner and drink specials on Friday-Saturday and lunch specials throughout the week.



Labeled as Contemporary American food, this tasteful upscale eatery has everything from roasted riesling chicken to a morning brioche French toast. And definitely don’t leave off trying the dark chocolate macadamia pave’ with brandied orange reduction. Lounge on their patio, while watching a scenic waterfall or warm up by the fire with your sweetheart. Since this restaurant gets packed, you may want to make a reservation ahead of time.


Devon Tower

Going up 50 floors, you will find a restaurant named Vast with mouthwatering menu options and amazing views of downtown. On the ground floor, Devon Tower has a cafeteria called Nebu for the downtown business crowd offering quite an array of yummy lunch options.


Tapwerks Ale House

Bring on the tap! Tapwerks was the first aged beer cellar in Oklahoma, has two floors of over 106 taps and provides more than 100 bottled beer options. They also have weekly live musicians, a library, pool tables, dart boards, shuffleboard and a jukebox.

If breakfast food is what you’re craving, the new breakfast joint Hatch might be exactly what you need. With a huge breakfast menu featuring unique spins on classic dishes, a full bar, and bright, modern décor – Hatch is perfect for that morning pick-me-up.

Serving coffee straight from the fields of Guatemala City and San Salvador, Coffee Slingers Roasters was one of the first retail shops on Broadway and is the ideal place to grab your brew. This farm to cup green coffee shop is voted as one of the coolest in the city.

A new coffee shop in the Downtown OKC underground, beneath the Continental Resources building, Bloom is a delicious and beautifully decorated coffee shop sure to feed your coffee addiction. From the fun chalkboard menu wall to flavorful coffees and teas, this hidden gem is a must-try.

Thunder up! Don’t miss checking out a Thunder game in the Chesapeake Energy Arena, while you are there you will quickly see why the NBA rated OKC as the number one city for fan appreciation.



Take me out to the ball game! Located in the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, this minor league baseball team has quite the history. In 2013, they achieved the longest overall and home winning streak in club history with 17 consecutive wins. Batter up!


OKC Energy FC

Get your kicks by watching some pro soccer. Go to the Taft Arena to see the OKC Energy FC, who play in the highest level of soccer played in the US. The stadium has had over $12,000 worth of renovations in last two years giving you the best view of the game. Ticket prices start at $10.00.


Myriad Gardens

Take a scenic walk through 15 acres of fragrant flowers and flowing waterfalls. This downtown park has everything from a tropical observatory and a dog park for your furry friends to a café offering an impressive wine list. Don’t miss out on trying the two yummy restaurants they have at the park called the Park House and the Ice House. The gardens also offer great events like the Sonic Summer Movies and full moon bike rides,to name a few.


Oklahoma City Museum of Art

With the largest Chihully collection in the nation, a yummy café and a weekly local rooftop party, this is a top pick for many downtowners. Thursday evenings on the roof of the museum will provide you beautiful views of the city skyline, a full bar and good old Oklahoma entertainment.


Boathouse District

Row your heart out, stand up while paddle boarding or go sky high on the Sky Trail. The boathouse is home to a 700-foot zip line, America’s tallest slide and has over 13 miles of trails to travel on.

Festival of the Arts

Located in the downtown area and showcasing 144 artists, 31 vendors and nearly 300 entertainers, this festival is a must attend. The Festival of the Arts features art of all kinds and when you buy from the local food vendors, they give back to support the arts. The festival is held from April 21st through the 26th.


OKC Fest

Rock on OKC! You won’t want to miss this country, rock, singer-songwriter event. On June 26th- June 27th the city attendees will be singing the tunes of groups like Rascal Flatts, Grace Potter, Hank Williams Jr. and many more.


Oklahoma City National Memorial Marathon

Run or walk with over 25,000 participants from seven countries and almost 50 states to support the Oklahoma City Memorial & Museum.  The race starts at the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum between 5th and 6th streets on Harvey. This marathon held annually the last Sunday in April, is also known as the “Run to Remember” and has received accolades from Runners World. So get out your gym shoes and jog on! The reason for the race is due to the Oklahoma City Bombing where many people lost their lives.

The Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon is about more than running, it is about celebrating life. This is not just another marathon. It is a Run to Remember…and a race to show that we can each make a difference and change the world. All Marathon proceeds benefit theOklahoma City National Memorial & Museum which tracks the remarkable journey of loss, resilience, justice and hope, following the Oklahoma City bombing.
